This school year, your child will have the opportunity to bring home class bags 1) the Mystery Bag, and 2) the Star of the Week bag. Each student will have a chance to bring both bags home once during the school year. Please be patient - I only send them out once per week :)
The Mystery Bag is a fun way to focus on letter sounds in the classroom. When your child brings home the Mystery Bag, he/she will have an assigned letter. You and your child will find an item at home that starts with the assigned letter (i.e. ball for "b"). Then, you will help your child write 3 clues of what the item is (i.e. It is round, It bounces, It is used in lots of sports). Your child will hide the object inside the bag, and then come to school the next day to share his/her clues with the class. This is a fun way for the students to get excited about phonics and use critical thinking skills :)
The Star of the Week bag comes home every Friday with a different student (note: I do not send the bag home when the following week will be shorter than 4 days). Inside the bag, is a binder, book, and our class mascot - Petunia the Peacock! The binder will have all the information you need to complete the activities over the weekend for your child to share the first day of the following week.
As you can see in the picture below, I am the Star of the Week for this upcoming week. Mr. B and I took Petunia on a trip with us to the K....she really liked the ice cream :)
Inside the binder, will be a paper for you to attach your picture of your child and Petunia. If you can't take/print a picture, your child is welcome to draw the picture too. Or, you can email the picture to me (please by Monday before 9 AM), and I will print it and have it ready for your child to share. There is also a "All About" sheet for you and your child to fill out to share with his/her friends. Lastly, please send in some pictures of your child's family, pet(s), favorite activity, and your child's favorite book. I will hang all the pictures in the class for the week and will also try to read your child's book to the class sometime during the week :)
I can't wait for your child to get a chance to bring these bags home. I hope you have as much fun with them as I do :)
